Restructuring – a word that no one, employer or employee likes to hear. And yet recently, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s a word we’ve been hearing on a regular basis. Unfortunately, as the Government employer subsidies come to an end it’s a word, we’re likely to hear even more over the next few months.

At Strategic Pay, we know money is tight given the current environment, and restraint during the annual salary review will be required in most organisations. Our experience with remuneration and rewards indicates that instead of across the board increases (including zero increases), organisations should be targeting specific groups. With highly restrained pay review budgets, alternative approaches to the annual salary review will need careful thought and complex modeling to ensure the limited budget is distributed appropriately.

A job evaluation is a systematic method of rationally assessing the relative sizes of jobs within an organisation. Size is measured by comparing jobs based on common criteria, called ‘factors’. These include knowledge and experience, thinking complexity and interpersonal skills.
