The 2023 Regional Councils’ and Unitary Authorities’ Remuneration Report is now available!

We’re pleased to announce the publication of the 2023 Regional Councils’ and Unitary Authorities’ Remuneration Report.

It outlines remuneration data from 14,431 incumbents from 17 Organisations with benchmark job data for 46 roles.

Some insights found in the report include:

  • The longest tenure for male employees remains within the 3rd tier management functional area (13.0 years). The longest average tenure for female employees is within the operations / engineering functional area (10.0 years)
  • Overall median fixed remuneration movement has increased significantly to 5.5% in 2023 from 1.8% in 2022 (and from 0.5% in 2021), reflecting higher movements seen across Local Government and the Public Sector.
  • 81% of Regional Council staff surveyed receive one or more benefits in addition to base salary.
  • 72% of employees are provided 20 days’ annual leave, with 25% provided 25 days per year. The remaining 1% receive more than 25 days.
