In New Zealand, we set pay in different ways.

Apart from the job evaluation process (which remains the most robust and reliable) and the other extreme of the “anecdotal” approach, which can work for smaller companies and in niche markets, there’s the very popular Benchmark approach.

The use of Benchmark job information provides an excellent starting point if you’re setting pay for a new position, or you’re feeling some pressure from someone in a role who believes they should be paid more.
Benchmark data can help you answer questions like; do you go ahead and meet their expectations? Does their contribution warrant such an adjustment? Can you afford it? Can you afford not to?
